About Us

Meet Our Pastor

Interim Pastor Teresa Mumford

Our History

Denton Wayside is undergoing an exciting transition! We are delighted to have Pastor Teresa Mumford stepping in as our Interim Pastor. As a valued member of our community, Teresa comes with a remarkable background in ministry through song, teaching, and leadership of various committees. Recently, she embraced her calling into ministry and is passionately working towards her ordination with The Churches of Christ in Christian Union. Each week, she shares an uplifting message filled with God amazing grace and love that inspires us all!

Our Mission
The mission of The Churches of Christ in Christian Union is to preach and teach the gospel of Christ for the purpose of world evangelism, Discipling Believers, Promoting Scriptural Holiness, and Establishing Churches and Ministries which reflect the Spirit and practice of the New Testament Church.

Our Beliefs

  • The Bible is the written, inspired Word of God and as such is infallible.

  • God as the Trinity consists of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, three distinct personalities yet one God.

  • God the Father: He is one with the Son and the Holy Spirit and is the creator of all things.

  • The Son: He is one with the Father and the Holy Spirit. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin, Mary and was without sin. He was crucified to be a propitiation for our sins. He rose from the dead and is now at the right hand of God interceeding for us.

  • The Holy Spirit: He is one with the Father and the Son. He is God's agent in convicting and convincing sinners of ssin. He sanctifies concreated Christians and magnifies Christ in the lives of believers ena ling them to live victoriously.

  • Sin: The willful disobedience to God's known law and the evil corruption of our human nature. All are sinful by nature and practice and are in need of redemption.

  • Salvation: God manifested His love for man by providing the ultimate sacrifice for the remission of sins. Salvation has been made possible by Christ's death on the cross and His resurrection from the dead.

  • Sanctification: A second, definite work of grace where the heart of a child of God is cleansed from the "original sin"(sin nature) and is filled with the Holy Spirit enabling us to live above sin.

  • Eternity:  The Bible taches that believers shall spend eternity with Christ in Heaven. It also taches that the wicked shall be judged and sentenced to an eternity in Hell apart from God.

  • The Sacraments: We recognize two Sacraments or church ordinances, Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Baptism by water is an outward confession and testimony of the believers' relationship with Christ. The Lord's supper, Communion, was instituted by Christ as a memorial of his Death.

  • The true church is the Body of Christ made up of many members who by faith have received Christ and have been born again. The Head of the Body is Christ.

Denton Wayside was birthed when the congregation of Friendship Evangelistic church was interested in building a new church. Land was sought for and 13 acres purchased in May of 1974 at the intersection of route 16 and 404, Denton, MD.
In August of 1974 the congregation agreed to join the Churches of Christ in Christian Union and the name of the church was changed to Denton Church of Christ in Christian Union. There were 14 charter members at that time. It was not until July of 1975 when the building of the church facility was to begin. At that time, services were being held in a bus. Dedication of the new building was held in June of 1976.

In 1979 a home was purchased from Nanticoke Homes to serve as a parsonage for the Pastor and family. A Sunday School Annex, Fellowship Hall and outside Tabernacle were added later.
Our church has been the home and start of many that have entered into the ministry of the Lord, including Pastors and Missionaries. Denton Wayside has been a guiding light in the community and its' light still shines on.

Outreach Ministries

Open Hands Ministry

Open Hands is an outreach ministry for those in need of household and personal care items after a loss, such as a fire or storm. We also help those that, due to unfortunate circumstances, need help starting over. We offer supplies such as furniture, bedding, toys, bath and kitchen supplies as well as clothing and many other items.

Support is only available through referrals from community organizations or churches.

One of the most rewarding programs we participate in is Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan's Purse. Our church collects items all year long and in November we have a packing party to fill the special shoe boxes. Gifts range from personal care items, games, books, toys, clothing, shoes, school supplies and a "Wow" item. Boxes are distributed to children in need around the world with the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is a true blessing to be a part of this ministry.

Lunch is served following the packing party.
